This 1920s LA apartment was a very rewarding project. The client was more than happy to indulge some of my weirder ideas and the result ended up a dreamy blend of Memphis design and minimalist Southwestern- basically a 90’s Taco Bell in heaven. The common room is long and skinny, so it made sense to put a dining room on one side and a living room on the other, but this apartment is pretty quirky. The window in the living room is significantly off-center, so the room desperately needed a focal point for balance. The obvious solution to fill the space and keep a narrow profile was to construct a fake Santa Fe style fireplace that would make Georgia O’Keefe proud. Luckily the client loved the idea and I got to work. The piece is securely anchored, but completely removable, and its curved lines and rounded edges lend an airy softness to the room.

An abstract mural livens things up in the dining room, and at the last minute I decided to arch the doorway into the kitchen, which brought the all the curves in the the room together into cohesive harmony.
